NW 17 Street Roadway Improvements

Two Roadway Improvements in the Grapeland Neighborhood on NW 17 Street in City of Miami, District 1

  • Project I – From NW 32nd to NW 37 Avenue (40-B183611A)
  • Project II – From NW 27 to NW 32nd Avenue (40-B183611)

The City of Miami and City District 1 Commissioner Miguel Angel Gabela proudly announce the design and construction of a roadway improvements project in the Grapeland Neighborhood in District 1.

This City Roadway improvement project has a Joint Partnership Agreement (JPA) component with Miami Dade County Water and Sewer (MD-WASD) to upgrade the existing water main line and water services.

Project is currently in the design phase.

Elements of the Project:

  • Full road reconstruction to include milling and resurfacing
  • New sidewalks and ADA pedestrian ramps
  • Driveway approaches, curb and gutter
  • Landscape work, pavement markings and signage

Benefits of the Project:

  • Improve pedestrian walkability (New sidewalks, new pedestrian ramps and crosswalks.)
  • Improve vehicular traffic (New asphalt pavement, pavement markings and signage. Implementation of curb and gutter along with 30’ turning radius and reduced traffic lanes width (11’) to discourage speeding.)
  • Stormwater drainage improvements (Existing stormwater drainage system is being upgraded to meet RPW current Engineering Standards)
  • Proposed street cross section provides on-street parking, which has been identified as a need for most of the residents in the area, while preserving landscaped swales.
  • The new design will accommodate swale areas (and tree planters along the parking lanes where feasible) allowing new tree planting (under a separate project) which provides shade for pedestrians, beautifies the area, and acts as a traffic calming element within the proposed street cross section. This benefit is pending internal Resilience and Public Works (RPW-ER) coordination, contingent to funds availability.
  • The JPA with MD-WASD to upgrade the existing water main line and water service lines should provide general improvements to the water service in this area.

  • Project I – From NW 32nd to NW 37 Avenue (40-B183611A) – Anticipated construction to start in February 2025.
  • Project II – From NW 27 to NW 32nd Avenue 940-B183611) – Anticipated construction to start in October 2025.
