Below, you will find instructions for common City of Miami Permits. These cross various departments, but if you need help with a specific department, you can visit their department page.
The Easy Permit Request program allows qualified contractors to apply,for small projects that do not require plan review (i.e. no major construction) and immediately receive a building permit via e-mail to begin working.
Do you want to replace or repair your roof? A building permit is required for all roofing work in both residential and commercial properties.
Get a permit to build a legal fence on your property.
Do you have a building project in-progress and need a sub-permit such as electrical, mechanical, fire, etc? These instructions explain how to get the necessary sub-permits for your project.
Are you hosting an event on private property (a home, an event space, a business, etc.) for more than 100 people? If so, you must apply for a TEP. The City grants TEP's so that hosts of medium-sized events may avoid having to apply for a special event permit, and to ensure the neighborhood is protected from unnecessary disruptions.

Do you have a temporary need to set up trailers, fences, loading areas, or parking (usually at a construction site)? You must apply for a TOP for any construction or land development purposes. This permit is good for two years.
Do you need to install/update a fire alarm(s), sprinkler, or other fire prevention device in a commercial building? This is the service to attain that permit. These instructions do NOT apply to fire permits that are associated with a new construction/master building permit.
Are you trying to open a business, and the zoning code states that you need a warrant? The City of Miami issues warrant permits for proposed uses in transect zones where the function is not allowed by right.

Are you looking to kick-off a major development project or renovate the interior of your residence? Or maybe you would like to expand your restaurant? This page gives general guidelines to the City's permitting process.
Would you like to host a garage sale in the City of Miami? The City requires a permit to hold a garage sale at a residential property in order to protect local businesses. Without a permit, you risk getting a fine.
Do you want to do tree work on your property, or in the public right of way? Or need to obtain an after-the-fact tree permit? The City of Miami protects tree activity and requires you to get a tree removal permit.
The "Temporary Use on Vacant Land", allows you to activate a vacant property for a temporary use such as a community garden, food hall, etc. This permit lasts up to three years and gets renewed every year.
Are you planning to host a Farmer's Market? If so, you must apply for a Farmers' Market Permit.
Do you want to install solar panels on top of your roof? If so, you need a specific permit for this. Miami's year-round sunshine makes our City a great place to utilize solar energy.
