Florida Thrives: Community of Practice is a capacity-building initiative that strengthens community-based organizations working at the intersection of economic development and economic justice. Through a performance-over-planning approach, Florida Thrives convenes organizational leaders to identify shared challenges, build practical solutions, and improve program quality, revenue growth, participation, and operational effectiveness. The initiative is delivered in collaboration with local partners and national experts to support sustainable, community-driven impact across South Florida.
Developed by Catalyst Miami in partnership with the South Florida Community Development Coalition, Florida Thrives emerged in response to the economic disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disproportionately affected frontline communities and small businesses. As South Florida advances toward a more inclusive post-pandemic economy, Florida Thrives supports organizations working to expand economic opportunity for residents historically excluded by outdated policies and practices. The initiative centers the voices of working people and fosters collaboration to strengthen the region’s inclusive economic development ecosystem by building partnerships, addressing policy and infrastructure barriers, and introducing innovative economic development strategies relevant to local communities.
Florida Thrives addressed, and defined, an ecosystem that will better serve small businesses and small business owners in South Florida. This report highlights the context and results of the initiative.
