Requirements

Water main extension plans MUST INCLUDE:

  • An indication of which water main line will serve as a dedicated Fire Line by:
    •  Labeling that line as ‘FIRE LINE’ or
    • Labeling that line as WS 4.20 if it is to be used as a supply for both ‘fire’ & ‘domestic’. Once that line splits into its specific function, then identify the ‘fire’ side as ‘FIRE LINE’.
    • NOTE: Do not label a Fire Line only as a ‘WATER MAIN’.
    •  An indication of the Double Detector Check Valve (DDCV) along with the label WS 4.20. (See link above).
    • The main frontage of a high-rise must have the primary FDC installation & its associated hydrant on the same side of the thoroughfare. The project’s address must coincide with the building’s main/primary and functional frontage.
    • Clearly indicate all existing, proposed, and neighboring fire hydrants (using the label WS 4.50) located along the fire department access roads surrounding the project site. Hydrant spacing must comply with MD-WASD requirements.
    • Show FDC locations within 100 ft of its associated hydrant. Any buildings greater than 75’ will require two remotely located FDC’s.
    • For any buildings greater than 420’, a redundant (2nd) fire line will be required to be located remotely from the first fire line.
    • Must indicate the height of the proposed project along with a brief description of the structure (and address).
      • For example – Proposed 75’, 7-story Parking Garage; Proposed Residential Building 269’ in Height; Proposed Mixed Use 110’ Building; etc.
