Sea Level Rise

CHALLENGES

  • Florida peninsula is comprised of a porous limestone bed, rising seas are pushing up groundwater levels
  • Stormwater system was designed to assume a portion of rainwater seeps back into the ground, but less capacity as groundwater levels rise.
  • Current and future impacts of sea level rise on seasonal high tides often called “King Tides”
  • Blue is current King tides and localized.
  • Compound rain and/or storm surge event that can exacerbate the flood risks as water cannot drain naturally.
  • Changes to Freshwater-Saline water interface delineation.
  • Aquifer and agricultural soil contamination with Salt Water
  • Impacts on Pollution to drinking water supply
