Bay of Pigs Memorial Park Ribbon Cutting & Unveiling of a New Monument
City of Miami District 4 Commissioner Manolo Reyes is proud to announce the completion of the improvements at the Bay of Pigs Memorial Park, and the new monument honoring the brave Cubans who participated in the Bay of Pigs Invasion. A ribbon cutting and unveiling will take place on April 12, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at the park.
On April 17, 1961, more than 1,400 Cuban exiles landed at the Bay of Pigs willing to give their lives to see a free Cuba. Today, only 537 of the original 1,414 Freedom Fighters remain alive.
"One of my favorite José Martí phrases is 'In honoring, we are honored.' The reconstruction of this park was one of my main promises made to those who left everything behind for their country. This park and particularly this new monument keeps the memory of those who died alive, as well as for all those who are still part of our community. I want to express my gratitude for fighting so bravely in Bay of Pigs to see a free Cuba," said Commissioner Reyes.
During the ceremony, Commissioner Reyes will unveil the new "Bay of Pigs Monument and Plaques" through which he wants to honor the heroes and tell the true story of the events.
The park improvements include new outdoor fitness equipment, a children's playground, a walking path, a drinking fountain, lighting, on-street parking, drainage, and sidewalk improvements, and new landscaping to provide a green enjoyable outdoor space for the community.
