The City of Miami Department of Human Services, in partnership with District 3 Commissioner Rolando Escalona and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, will host the 2026 EKG Initiative Celebration on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, commemorating eight consecutive years of providing free heart screenings and promoting cardiac health awareness for youth throughout the community.

“The EKG Initiative provides free heart screenings for youth and continues to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of cardiac conditions in children and adolescents,” said Commissioner Rolando Escalona. “This initiative has connected families with potentially life-saving cardiac screenings and educational resources throughout the community.”

“Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s Community EKG Screening Program is more than a health initiative—it is a lifeline,” said Dr. Danyal Khan, pediatric cardiologist at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. “By bringing heart screenings directly into our neighborhoods and making them accessible to every child, we have the opportunity to detect and treat conditions early.”

The City of Miami remains committed to improving health outcomes for youth and families by expanding access to preventive healthcare services and strengthening community partnerships.
