District Five Commissioner Christine King, who also serves as Chairwoman of the Southeast Overtown Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (SEOPW CRA), is partnering with the SEOPW CRA, Books & Books, and local District Five bookstore Roots Bookstore & Market to welcome acclaimed bestselling author S.A. Cosby to Miami’s Overtown for a special evening of conversation on Thursday, October 15 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Lyric Theater.

“Books are like movies in our minds. They transport us, allowing us to imagine things beyond our own experiences,” said Commissioner King. “I look forward to sharing this conversation with S.A. and our community.”

One of today’s most celebrated voices in Southern fiction, Cosby is known for stories exploring race, class, identity, and justice in the American South. His Miami appearance brings that conversation to Historic Overtown, one of the city’s most significant centers of Black history and culture, for a discussion led by Commissioner King, a reader and longtime admirer of his work. The conversation will explore Cosby’s latest work as well as the themes that have made him one of the most compelling voices in contemporary crime fiction.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Commissioner King and the SEOPW CRA to bring S.A. Cosby to Historic Overtown,” said Mitch Kaplan, founder of Books & Books. “Books & Books has always believed in the power of bringing great writers and readers together, and we’re excited to be part of an evening that does exactly that in such a meaningful Miami community.”

Cosby is the author of the New York Times bestsellers All the Sinners Bleed and Razorblade Tears, as well as Blacktop Wasteland, which won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. All the Sinners Bleed was also selected for President Barack Obama’s Summer Reading List.

A limited number of free admission tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Free tickets can be reserved at the link below. Attendees interested in a signed copy of his book Truth to Power: A Luke Cage Marvel Crime Novel may purchase an admission ticket at the below link as well.
