The City of Miami Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Office of Resilience and Sustainability and the Department of Fire-Rescue Division of Emergency Management, operates 11 Cooling Centers during the Extreme Heat Season. In addition to City operated sides, Miami-Dade County operates 11 Cooling Sites within the City of Miami for a total of 22 Cooling Centers/Sites within the City.
Each of these Cooling Centers will provide a dedicated area within the facility where members of the public will have access to air conditioning, restrooms, water, and a place to sit and cool down. Additionally, each Cooling Center will be equipped with informational resources, and Cooling Kits with ice packs, electrolytes, water bottle, paper fan, and a cooling towel.
Established in 2022, Extreme Heat Season runs May 1 – October 31 in Miami-Dade County.
An action to address extreme heat in the recently released Miami Forever Climate Ready: Extreme Heat Plan, Cooling Centers are located at select Parks throughout the City. Cooling Centers will provide places where members of the community can visit to stay cool during extremely hot days. Each Park community center was strategically selected due to their proximity to communities with health-vulnerable populations and to compliment Miami-Dade County’s network of Cooling Centers, which includes locations in libraries within the City of Miami. See the map or lists below for all Cooling Center sites in the City of Miami.
