Request a Tree in the City Right of Way

Do you want to request a new tree to be planted on city property? The City of Miami Urban Forestry Program will procure and install a variety of quality Florida Grade #1 or better trees for placement in the city right of way. You can request a specific location for a new tree planting and our team will review, depending on supply.

NOTE: This is a different service than applying for a permit to plant your own tree in the public right of way. You can view the page to Plant a Tree in the Right of Way for that process.

Take Photos, if Possible

It is helpful for our team to see photos of the area where you're requesting a new tree. You will be able to upload these photos on the below form, but this is not necessary.

Submit Your Request

The city will address your request within 180 business days. If you do not see any change in that time frame, call Public Works at (305) 416 - 1200.

Location Assessment

The Department of Resilience and Public Works (RPW) will assign an Urban Forester to assess the requested location. The type of tree selected will vary depending on overhead/underground utilities and swale size.

New Tree Aftercare

City contractors will ensure the adequate watering of newly planted trees during the initial establishment period. The contractors are also responsible for the maintenance of the trees during the warranty period. Following the warranty period, the responsibility for the tree's care will be transferred to the homeowner. Homeowners may contact 311 to request necessary trimming services for the tree, which will be performed by the City of Miami. Additionally, upon request, RPW will dispatch an inspector to evaluate the health of a tree should any concerns arise.
