Current Project Construction Status - August 2025:
The Office of Capital Improvements (OCI) is working in the completion of the new pool administration building, restrooms facilities and mechanical room to support the revised pool design (approved at the May 29, 2024, community meeting).
Detailed Construction Progress Summary - Revised Pool Design:
- Pool demolition – 100% complete
- Final excavation to required depth – 100% complete
- Replacement of 10" recirculation pipes with 12" pipes at a depth of 9 feet – completed
- Replacement of 10" recirculation pipe to pump – completed
- Final leveling of pool bottom began last week, targeting a depth of 7 feet at the deep end and 5 feet at the shallow end
- Soil compaction is scheduled to begin, followed by compaction testing and preparation for the concrete slab
- All WASD utility connections – completed; road and sidewalk repairs are in progress
- FPL power connection has been scheduled by FPL; permanent power is expected within three weeks to support completion of the three buildings
Next steps will involve grading of the pool bottom to the new depth, compacting the surface, and preparing formwork for the pool walls and rebar installation. Anticipated project completion timeframe: Early Spring 2026

Project Design Option 1B - received a majority vote at the May 29th, 2024, Community Meeting
Project Status - July 2025:
Currently, the Office of Capital Improvements (OCI) is working in the completion of the new pool administration building, restrooms facilities and mechanical room to support the revised pool design (approved at the May 29, 2024, community meeting). Meanwhile, City staff are finalizing the required documentation to be able to proceed with the construction of the revised pool design. Once we start construction, the anticipated time for completion will be seven (7) months. As such, we expect a completion timeframe of March 2026. We will keep you informed as we move forward in this process.
Project Status – September 2024:
Based on the community’s choice at the May 29, 2024, public meeting for a revised pool design (Option 1B), currently the City of Miami Office of Capital Improvements (OCI) is working in the required changes to all sections and structural design for the pool, including floor, walls and a new pump/filter. In September 2024, a new pool variance design was presented to the Florida Department of Health Advisory Review Board and approved! We will keep you posted on the next steps.

Groundbreaking Ceremony to kick off construction of the new facility was enjoyed by the community and City Officials.
Achievements - January to March 2024:
- Installation of pool walls and deck – Completed.
- Exterior stucco on building walls and begin painting of exterior walls - Completion of Stucco to two buildings & Prime Coat Completed to the two buildings (Bathrooms & Mechanical Building)
- Installation of roof light weight concrete and completion of roof system – In process
- Installation of exterior doors and hardware – Completed
- Installation of drywall partitions and drop ceilings – In Process
- Completion of HVAC system (air conditioning) – In Process
- Installation of pool equipment in maintenance building – In Process
- Installation of water & sewer lines on Oak & Hibiscus – Permit Resubmitted to WASA and Pending Pre-construction Conference with WASA and pending Exploratory Excavation for location of existing Utilities.
- Installation of FPL Power Connection Point- FPL Completed the electrical Design, Pending the actual connection work from the contractor.
- Completion of Pool Retaining Wall- Completed
- Installation of Thermal conduits and completion of the Thermal Pump in the Mechanical Building
- Pool Gutter Drains Installed and site has been backfilled to grade.
- Building Roof prepared to receive light way concrete.

Achievements - September 2023:
- The new trash enclosure has been completed and pending the installation of the fence perimeter gate.
- The pool bottom concrete slab has been placed and contractor is starting to install formwork for the pool walls.
- Door frames for the administration, bath house and maintenance buildings have been installed as well as the rough electrical and plumbing systems.
- Round windows have been installed along with exterior wall stucco on the walls facing the pool.
- Perimeter retaining wall and pool canopy roof has been constructed.
- Installation of the HVAC duct work has started as well as the metal wall partitions on the administration and bath house buildings.
What to look forward upon project completion:
- New multipurpose swimming pool that includes the following:

- New pool bathhouse that includes bathrooms and storage

- Right of Way (ROW) Improvements that include the installation of a new water line on Hibiscus Street, to connect to existing water lines on Day Avenue and Percival Avenue and new samitary sewer connection on Oak Avenue.

New Pool at Virrick Park meets the USA Swimming and the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) Standard Requirements:
With a depth of 4' to 5'-3", a length of 25-yards and six (6) swimming lanes (7"wide each), the new Pool at Virrick Park meets the required USA Swimming, NFHS and Florida Health Department pool standards. Please refer below to the standard guidelines.
