Leave No Trace Policy Implementation and "Day on the Bay" Announcement
The City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to announce the launch of our Leave No Trace policy, scheduled to begin on May 18, 2024. This new policy represents a significant step forward in promoting responsible recreation and environmental stewardship on Biscayne Bay.
In recognition of the importance of preserving the natural beauty and environmental integrity of our waterfront parks and islands, the City of Miami Commission unanimously passed a resolution approving the Leave No Trace policy at the March 14, 2024 commission meeting. The policy aims to ensure the sustainable use of our natural resources while minimizing the impact of human activity.
To celebrate the launch of the initiative, Leave No Trace policy and raise awareness about responsible recreation, Miami Parks, along with Mayor Francis Suarez, Chairwoman and District Five Commissioner Christine King, District Two Commissioner Damian Pardo, and Miami Marine Patrol will host the event "Day on the Bay" on May 18, 2024, at Morningside Park starting at 9 a.m.
In addition to this learning opportunity, we also invite the community to participate in their favorite recreational activity on Biscayne Bay Park. Vendors such as PADL (www.padl.co) and Morningside Watersports (www.morningsidewatersports.com) will be offering kayaks and paddleboards for rentals. We also welcome all boaters to Biscayne Bay to participate in spreading the message citywide with the hashtag #DayOnTheBay305.
“Implementing proactive measures like the Leave No Trace policy and advocating responsible recreation allows us to significantly impact the health and vitality of Biscayne Bay. By aligning our efforts with existing community needs, we can safeguard the delicate ecosystems of Biscayne Bay, ensuring its long-term health and vitality for generations to come,” said Chris Evans, Director of the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department.
