The City of Miami has been awarded $3 million in Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) funding to establish a 24-officer Urban Vertical Patrol Unit, a specialized team dedicated to enhancing safety within high-density residential and mixed-use environments.
This innovative unit will employ community-centered, nontraditional deployment strategies—such as foot and bicycle patrols—to promote sustained visibility, accessibility, and mobility throughout these urban areas. In addition to addressing nuisance abatement and traffic-related concerns, the Urban Vertical Patrol Unit will work collaboratively with residents, local businesses, property managers, and civic organizations to develop and implement long-term, sustainable solutions to urban crime and quality-of-life issues.
